  • Total Time: 36 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

– 1 lb (about 450 g) mozzarella cut into 3ร—2 inch pieces

– 1 egg

– 1 tablespoon water

– Vegetable oil for frying

– 2 cups (approx. 200 g) breadcrumbs

– 1 teaspoon garlic powder

– 1 teaspoon onion powder

– 1 teaspoon oregano

– 1 teaspoon pepper

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 1/2 cup (113 g) unsalted melted butter

– 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper

– 1 tablespoon brown sugar

– 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

– 1 teaspoon garlic (fresh minced or powdered)

– 1 teaspoon salt

– 1 teaspoon pepper

– 1 teaspoon honey (optional)

– 1/2 cup (120 g) mayonnaise

– 1/2 cup (120 g) sour cream

– 1/2 cup (120 ml) buttermilk

– 2 teaspoons dried or fresh chives

– 1 teaspoon lemon juice

– 1 teaspoon dried or fresh parsley

– 1 teaspoon onion powder

– 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

– 1 teaspoon salt

– 1/2 teaspoon pepper

– 1/2 teaspoon sugar

Instructions

1-Getting started with Nashville Hot Mozzarella Sticks: Begin by preparing the Nashville hot sauce: combine all sauce ingredients in a small pot over low heat, whisk until the butter melts, then simmer for 1-2 minutes and set aside. Next, mix all dressing ingredients in a bowl until well combined and keep refrigerated until serving.

2-Preparing the coating: Now, combine the breading spices and breadcrumbs in a separate bowl, and whisk the egg with water to create an egg wash. Dip each mozzarella piece first in the egg wash, then in the breading mixture, repeating the egg wash and breading step for a double coating. Arrange the coated sticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape during frying.

3-Cooking: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a pan to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Fry the frozen sticks for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crisp, then drain on a cooling rack. While still warm, brush the sticks with the prepared Nashville hot sauce and serve immediately with the buttermilk ranch dressing. Preparation takes about 1 minute, cooking about 5 minutes, plus the freezing time.
