Ingredients
– 5 quarts Plain air-popped popcorn Provides the crispy base
– 1 cup Butter Adds richness to the caramel
– 2 cups Light brown sugar Creates the sweet caramel coating
– 1/2 cup light corn syrup
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 20 fun-size chopped candy bars
– 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips melted for drizzling
Instructions
1-First, prepare all ingredients and equipment, including measuring out the popcorn, sugars, butter, and chopped candy bars. Preheat your oven to 250Β°F to get ready for baking.
2-Next, pop the 5 quarts of popcorn using an air popper or stovetop method until it’s fully popped. Spread it out on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
3-In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the 1 cup of butter and add the 2 cups of light brown sugar, 1/2 cup of light corn syrup, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Stir continuously until the mixture boils.
4-Let it boil for 4-5 minutes without stirring until it thickens and turns a golden color. Remove from heat and stir in the 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract for that extra flair.
5-Pour the hot caramel over the popcorn right away, stirring quickly to coat everything evenly. This step is where the fun begins!
6-Spread the coated popcorn on the baking sheet and bake for about 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes to ensure even caramelization and crispiness.
7-After baking, remove from the oven and mix in the 20 fun-size chopped candy bars while still warm. Then, drizzle with 2 cups of melted semi-sweet chocolate chips and let it cool completely until the chocolate sets.
